#12 Disappointment

I am feeling very disappointed this morning because of a setback in my running. Yesterday morning I had a very nice three-mile run with Vivi,so I thought everything was fine. That evening was time for the regular Wednesday night running group at the high school, so I signed up and joined the "basic running" group. We began with a 30-minute slow, easy jog, but my calf and thigh began to ache and just got worse and worse. I had to drop out. I explained to the leader, Bill, that I was coming back from a hamstring injury, and he sympathized and said to take it slow and easy. I thought I could run with Vivi again this morning, but on the quarter mile from my house to hers my leg started aching again, and I know I couldn't go on. I had to tell her I couldn't run after all. I had gotten up early and done lots of stretching and preparing to run, but it didn't work out. The hard part is that running gives me so much joy and relaxation, but I guess if I rest for a few days I may be fine.

Today is student orientation and I will meet with a group of students at some point, although the plans are still a little unclear.

As for mindfulness, I did manage a short meditation this mooring, and I will attempt to be mindful all day, especially when I begin to feel frustration.
